The Road Apple Rally is Oct. 4 at Lions Wilderness Park. If you enjoy a nice mountain bike ride, this is a great race. Very fast on a windy course. Registration runs through Oct. 3. There's roughly 657 different classes, so you should have no problem finding a suitable race to participate in. Online registration is available at Active.com.

This is the oldest, continuously run mountain bike race in the U.S. of A.

I'm writing this while staring at a lovely pottery-style coffee mug I won at last year's Road Apple. I finished second in my division ... out of two riders. That's awesome.
