An update from Durango

My fearless boss, Louie, has decided to brave the treacherous roads of northwest New Mexico and southwest Colorado this evening to cover the Kirtland Central-Durango contest this evening up in Durango. A week appears to have made all the difference for the Broncos, as they lead 18-12 at halftime behind a stellar performance from quarterback Jeff Belin. Sure, Belin broke KC's school record with 313 yards in the opener against Blanding (Utah), but he's on his way to shattering that. Through two quarters, Belin is 17-for-31 for 272 yards and three touchdowns. As an aside, Louie reports that the officials are "reinventing the rulebook" up there - not sure what that means, but I'm sure we'll all find out together in tomorrow's edition of The Daily Times.

I'm sitting here in the office, listening to the Aztec-Belen game. In the third quarter, Mike Hathcock has just scored his third touchdown of the evening, staking the Tigers to a 28-7 lead over the Eagles. Aztec fell behind 7-6 in the first quarter, and Belen looked (sounded?) like it might make a game of this one, but it's turning into a typical Tiger game - standing on the accelerator pedal and reminding everyone why they're ranked No. 3 in Class 4A.
