An update from East Cobb vs. Midland

Through two innings at Ricketts, East Cobb leads Midland 1-0 despite failing to record a hit thus far. The Yankees scored their lone run on an oddball sacrifice fly by Kyle Farmer in the first inning, as speedster Johnathan Taylor dared to run on a a fly ball fielded in shallow center field by shortstop Deven Marrero. Thanks to a little bit of hesitation on Marrero's part as to whether he should throw home, Taylor easily scored.

East Cobb just got its first hit of the evening, giving the Yanks runners on the corners with no outs in the top of the third inning. Matt Skole, who has accounted for around 20 homers and 80 RBIs this summer according to coach James Beavers, is standing in the batter's box at the moment and is peppering the crowd with foul balls.

And there you have it - base hit for Skole, 2-0 Yankees as Evan Martin crosses the plate. I'll keep you posted as this inning continues.

Update: Austin Wood, a righty, has taken over on the mound for starter Walker Kelly. Kelly went 2 2-3 innings, allowing four hits. He is responsible for the three runners on base, however, so with two outs, Wood has come into the game in a tough spot.

Did I say Wood came in in a tough situation? Well, on his first pitch to Jarrett Didrick, the Yankees' No. 8 hitter planted the ball out into the middle of Vine Avenue for a grand slam. It's now 6-0 East Cobb with two outs in the top of the third.
