I watched the first game of Piedra Vista's season-opening doubleheader on Saturday.

The Panthers looked the part of 4A's No. 1 team, run-ruling Los Alamos twice without two key players.

New PV coach Mike McGaha doesn't agree, at least publicly. He ranked his Panthers behind Albuquerque Academy and Farmington, according to NMPreps.com.

"I think that there are a lot of people picking us at the top of the heap, but I thnk it is a bit premature," McGaha told the site.

He also had something interesting to say when asked about expectations at Piedra Vista.

"Expectations are very high but investment was not adequate," he said. "We have worked very hard to break down the reasons Piedra Vista has not been able to get over the one-game hump they have faced by way of FHS and AA in the state title games they had chances to play in."
