Navajo Prep Leftovers: Webb Toyota

The Kearns JV girls basketball team got me pretty good tonight.

One of the players had a toy gun that she was shining at the floor with a laser.

She handed me the gun.

"Shoot it!"

Eight pairs of eyes looked at me. I don't know why I wasn't suspicious.

I aimed at one of the girls, squeezed the trigger -- and got an electric shock.

This, of course, sent them into hysterics. They were an entertaining bunch, dancing like crazy and then deciding to take as many pictures as possible, posing with whoever they could find. First they roped the trainer into a picture and then me.

As far as the game's concerned, Navajo Prep shot as well as they have in weeks from the free throw and 3-point lines.

Heather Rogers made 7-of-8 free throws.

"She's actually been the most consistent one at the free throw line," coach Nicole Crisp said. "If we can have her go to the line every time, that would be good."

I asked Bridget Becenti if this Prep team, ranked No. 4 in 2A, is proving something to itself after losing such talent last year.

She said "nothing's different," as if to say, we can handle business, too. She mentioned several players that have transitioned to the varsity team and how she expects more from those girls in coming weeks.
