No Triple For Borel

Contrary to pedigree and common thought, turns out the Belmont might have been too long for Mine That Bird.

Surprisingly, the horse took the lead just before the homestretch and faded over the final yards to a third-place finish.

Jockey Calvin Borel is telling ABC that the pace was way too slow up front and his horse was fighting him to take off early. It was the other bird, Summer Bird, that came on late for the win pending inquiry.

Borel won the Kentucky Derby aboard Mine That Bird and the Preakness aboard filly Rachel Alexandra, but couldn't complete the jockey Triple Crown.

Stay true and keep pounding,
Christopher
